Colonel Chris Kauffmann, USMC (Ret.), chief operating officer of the Jacksonville Port Authority, will be our guest speaker at a mixer on Friday, July 20, at Cross Creek Steakhouse. Navy League mixers offer a great opportunity to visit with friends, old and new, and learn about a variety of local, state and national issues from area civic, business and military leaders in a casual atmosphere. Plan to join us, and consider bringing a guest; it’s a great way to introduce someone to Navy League!

Kauffmann joined JAXPORT as the Director of Seaport Security in 2002. He served for more than 27 years in the United States Marine Corps in various command and staff positions and retired as a Colonel. Kauffmann’s final military assignment was as Force Protection Officer with the U. S. Naval Forces, Central Command and 5th Fleet stationed in Bahrain. In this capacity, he directed the security and anti-terrorism programs and operations for all personnel, ships, aircraft and facilities under the control of the Commander, U. S. Naval Forces, Central Command within the geographic area that stretches from the Suez Canal to the Arabian Gulf.

In 2003, Kauffmann was named JAXPORT Senior Director, Terminal Operations and Seaport Security. He was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in September 2009, and his responsibilities expanded to include engineering and construction. Kauffmann holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in 1975. He received a Masters in Business Administration from National University in 1982, and a Masters in National Military Strategy from the National Defense University in 1997.
