Relive the night in April 1942 when a Nazi sub torpedoed an oil tanker fewer than four miles off the coast of Jacksonville Beach while thousands of people watched from the shoreline!
As this year marks the 75th anniversary of this event, JaxCouncil is happy to announce that local historian and businessman Scott A. Grant will offer his dynamic and detailed presentation about the attack at our WWII Commemorative Luncheon.
Grant is a local expert on the April 10, 1942, Nazi U-boat attack and sinking of the US tanker, Gulfamerica, just off the coast of Jacksonville Beach, resulting in the loss of 19 seamen. Grant became enamored by some of our area’s historical events, including the Gulfamerica attack, when he and his family moved here 12 years ago. He enjoys speaking publicly about the event and especially likes to meet seniors who recall first-hand accounts.
Grant studied economics and history at Cornell before working on Wall Street while earning a law degree from Rutgers. Now, he manages some $90 million in private investments as owner and manager of Standfast Asset Management in Ponte Vedra Beach.
